Coronavirus Updates

March 25, 2020

Dear InspireNOLA parents and guardians,

As we enter week two of this “new normal,” I hope you are beginning to establish a new routine that balances self-care and mental stimulation for you and your family. We want you to stay safe and healthy through this time.

Our situation is changing daily as new information is made available. We will continue to send updates every Wednesday and Friday. These updates can also be found on our website. I also ask that you please visit our Coronavirus page on our website for updates. There you will find a list of resources and our frequently asked questions. Both of these pages will be updated as more information becomes available, so please take a look at them at least once a week. We are also in the process of setting up a live hotline. Information will be shared with you as soon as it is up and running.

We sincerely appreciate the commitment of our community and your support during this unprecedented time. In order to ensure a safe and successful learning experience for our students, we have identified an alternative pathway to learning. PreK through twelfth-grade assignments can be viewed or downloaded from InspireNOLA’s Google Drive. They will no longer be available at the food hubs. You do not have to print out the assignment packets. Assignments for grades 3-12 will also be available on Google Classroom. New assignments will be posted every two weeks. The online assignments will have translations for our ELL students.

Students can complete assignments using Microsoft Word or another similar program such as Google Docs (which is free), or by paper and pencil. Hardcopy assignments can be scanned in and uploaded to Google Classrooms. If you don’t have a scanner, you can take a photo of the assignment and upload that.

Students should continue to check their Google Classroom accounts and the InspireNOLA website regularly as new assignments will be posted there.

Please note: These assignments will be used to calculate 4th Quarter grades, so it is important that your student completes these assignments.

InspireNOLA teachers will begin holding virtual office hours from 9-11 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, beginning March 31. Teachers can also be contacted through email, Google Classroom and/or Class Dojo. Parents will also be receiving a phone call from their child’s teacher in regards to support with assignment and Google Classroom access.

Students who receive services through Exceptional Children Services (ESS) and ELL will have continued support and follow the plan determined by the teacher working with your individual student. Homeroom teachers will be available to answer questions and support students on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Parents/guardians of students with IEPs or 504 plans, please contact Dianne Lewis at (504) 330-0062 or email if you have questions and/or concerns relevant to accommodations for instruction and related services for your child(ren).

If you need support for social/emotional concerns, please contact Dr. Keisha Simpson at (504) 421-2235 or email her at

Please note: Due to increased safety concerns for our students, families, and staff, there will be a citywide change to food distribution beginning tomorrow!

InspireNOLA is offering free grab-and-go breakfasts and lunches for students from 9 a.m. to noon at Alice Harte (5300 Berkley Drive) and McDonogh 35 (4000 Cadillac St.). Additional locations for meal pickup throughout the city can be found here: You or your student may pick up meals at ANY of the listed school locations.

Meals will be distributed as normal on Wednesday. On Thursday, March 26 students will receive meals for both Thursday and Friday. There will be no meal distribution on Friday, March 27.

Starting next week, Monday, March 30, food hubs will be open on Mondays and Wednesdays only. On Mondays, students will receive meals for two days and on Wednesday they will receive meals for three days.

If your child still has medicine stored in the nurse’s office at your school, please call or email Harold Juluke at or (504) 227-3051 to make arraignments for pickup.

InspireNOLA will be hosting a virtual spirit week through social media starting on Monday. Look for details in Friday’s update!

All school buildings are completely closed until further notice. The custodial staff is on-site this week doing a deep clean throughout each of our schools with hospital- grade disinfectant. No one else will be permitted to the buildings.
