InspireNOLA launches Parent Engagement Academy

The InspireNOLA Parent Academy is an exciting new resource for all InspireNOLA families! The Parent Academy will include a series of free workshops designed to engage parents/guardians as partners in their scholar's education and will work to provide useful information and resources needed to help their children succeed in school and in the community. The goal is to connect families, school and network staff, and community stakeholders in meaningful partnerships that will help increase student achievement and support wellbeing. Free workshops and classes are offered monthly and, parents will have the opportunity to participate in workshops that are aligned with their needs and are conveniently located near their home and workplace.

    Fair Housing & Home Programs: Parents will learn about programs that assist with home buying and protection from unlawful evictions. Presented by Tiffany Lewis, Louisiana Fair Housing Office Action Center.

  • Wednesday, May 12, 6 p.m. 
    Moving to a Bigger Pond: Helping your Eighth Grader Transition to High School: Essential needs and what to look out for as your child transitions to high school. Presented by Stephen Goodly, Freshman Academy Principal. Register

Past workshops included:

  • English Language Learners: Supporting ESL learners with virtual instruction: Parents will learn strategies for supporting English Language Learners in reading, speaking, and listening. Presented by Keilon Martin, Instructional Specialist.

  • LEAP 2025 State Testing: Grades Matter & How to Help Improve My Child’s Scores in a Virtual Setting: Parents will learn information on grading, state testing, and resources to support improved scores, and support to keep scores high in a virtual setting. Presented by Dr. Wylene Sorapuru, Chief Academic Officer.
  • Social Emotional Learning: Mental health strategies for students: Parents will learn about mental health wellness, techniques to improve emotional well-being and resources to help with social emotional needs. Presented by Dr. Simpson, Network Social Worker Lead.
  • Connecting with Your Teen: A Two-Part Workshop" Parents often feel when their child becomes a teenager, they become a different person and can often wonder “Who is this new person living in my home?”  Understanding the development of teens and strategies to effectively communicate with them will be the focus of a two-part workshop offered virtually at 6 p.m. March 24 and 31.
    Session I: Teen Development (March 24, 2021) will help parents learn about brain development and why their teen acts the way they do. 
    Session II: Effective Communication with Teens (March 31, 2021) will help parents learn to effectively communicate with their teen. 
  • Preparing to Leave the Nest: How do High School Juniors Prepare for their Senior Year:  checklist of tasks upcoming seniors need to prepare for before beginning their senior year. Parents will leave this session with a stronger grasp on what their seniors need to do before the end of their final year of high school. Presented by Jared Harris, High School and College Counselor.
